Yellow Belladone

So a few months ago I decided to step outside my comfort zone of colors and buy this lovely yellow fabric. And then I had no idea what to do with it.

And then I bought Deer and Doe‘s Belladone pattern and decided it would be adorable in this print with a pleated skirt.

I love how it turned out, I’m just not 100% sure the color suits me. But yay for branching out!

    • Thank you! 🙂 Yes, definitely. I have a couple yards of a burnt rusty orange fabric that is completely outside of my normal color palette! No idea what to make with it though hehe.

      • how spooky, I have a similar colour fabric, rusty orange with black flowers and birds. I was eyeing it up for ages, finally bought it now don;t know what to make with it! typical. Perhaps I can gain some inspiration from you if you can decide what to do with it 😀 xxx

  1. Love this! It’s just so cute! Yellow looks great on you– it’s a nice contrast with your dark hair. I looooooooove this pattern. Seriously can’t stop plotting future versions of it!

    • Thanks! I was a little skeptical with my first one but I totally adore the pattern now. It’s totally acceptable to have fifteen versions of the same dress, right?

  2. I think the yellow totally works! Such an adorable dress. I think I need to hop on this Deer and Doe bandwagon–I love just about everything of theirs that I see!

  4. That color looks gorgeous on you! And the pattern is so cute. I think I will have to try it out for myself although my French is SUPER poor (haven’t actually used my pathetic French skills since high school).

    • They actually more recently came out with patterns that are both in English and French. I think you can order them from their website. (If you’re buying from a local store just double check; mine was one of the older ones that was French only!)

Either way, it’s a pretty simple pattern that comes with sketches of most of the steps. Even someone with no French background should be able to decipher it, especially with the help of google translate!

  5. Your dress is beautiful. My Belladone and Sureau patterns are in the post. I was hoping to make an evening and a day version of the Belladone so this sun dress is really inspiring me! How did you change the skirt – different pattern or self-draft?

    • I drafted it myself. I pretty much just cut two rectangles, sewed them together on one of the short sides, and then did a 1.5″ box pleat from one edge of the bodice to the other. Easy peasy! (Let me know if the description makes no sense though, that tends to happen when I try to explain things..)
